Climate Diet Highlights from Planet Maryland Event
On Sunday, June 22, 2025, Climate Diet actively participated in the 4th annual Planet Maryland event, hosted at Elm Street Park in suburban Maryland. Despite the sweltering heat, the event attracted thousands of environmentally conscious attendees, particularly plant-based eaters.
The day’s activities were expertly led by Eric Lindstrom, Executive Director of FARM USA and the event’s Master of Ceremonies. Attendees enjoyed ice-cold healthy treats, engaging music performances, and inspiring speeches from several speakers advocating for plant-based eating and climate awareness. The event featured food contests, delicious plant-based treats from various vendors, and discussions by elected officials.
Climate Diet sponsored an interactive booth, inviting attendees to participate in quizzes about the environmental impact of meat production and other food choices. Nearly 100 visitors engaged with the quizzes, highlighting public interest in sustainable eating. Winners Gail Becker from North Bethesda and Clay Seeksmore received $25 gift cards, having scored perfect marks on their quizzes.
Additionally, Climate Diet offered free nutritional counseling by registered dietitian and Climate Diet Advisory Board member Mark Rifkin.
Among notable speakers:
- Saurabh Dalal of DC Veg Society discussed the environmental benefits of plant-based eating, emphasizing the significant pollution impact from the fishing industry.
- Evan Glass, Montgomery County Council Member and County Executive candidate, spoke to the attendees and connected with Climate Diet CEO Jane DeMarines.
- Seth Tibbott, founder of the Tofurky Company, shared his inspiring entrepreneurial journey, highlighting the company’s influential role in the vegan and sustainable food movement over the past 40 years.
Climate Diet extends gratitude to FARM USA and all participants for a successful, educational, and engaging event dedicated to promoting a sustainable and healthier future.
