Aldi’s Food Chain Goes 100% Plant Based in USA
Aldi USA’s Illinois headquarters announced that all 1,400 U.S. stores in 32 states will undergo a massive restocking to replace all meat, dairy, and eggs with 100% plant-based, vegan, options. This trailblazing move puts Aldi ahead of all other national chain grocers, making them first to cater exclusively to a rapidly growing plant-based market.
Aldi’s Bold Vegan Move
“We’ve been working on this for years,” said Jonathan Aldi, third-generation heir to the Aldi estate. “With the popularity of the vegan items we’ve already been selling, this move only makes sense to capture the vegan market and make positive changes in our industry, our customers, the animals, and our planet.”
Aldi USA has already seen success with the expansion of their vegan items, including burgers, cheeses, milks, and ice creams. Aldi is also exploring more ways to take the company green like charging shoppers an additional quarter to park in their designated parking lots.
Other Chains Consider Plant-Based Transitions
Aldi’s bold decision caught the attention of other national grocers, who are closely watching Aldi’s transformation. Walmart, Kroger, and Whole Foods have all made great strides to expand their vegan products, but none have yet taken the leap to go fully plant-based.
