Are you curious about what goes into your burger—and how it impacts the planet?
This week, we spotlight a revealing graphic from Matthew Glover, Co-Founder of Veganuary, that compares plant-based Beyond Burgers with traditional beef burgers.

The Beyond Burger is crafted entirely from plant-based ingredients, offering a savory burger experience with a lighter environmental footprint.
Free from animal products, antibiotics, and hormones, it’s a choice designed for both taste buds and the planet.

Beef Burger:
They contain skeletal muscle, connective tissue, lymph nodes, blood vessels, nerve fibers, fat and cartilage, occasional bone fragments, antibiotic and hormone residues, and, if undercooked, the risk of pathogens like E. coli and Salmonella.
Beef burgers also contain saturated fat (linked to heart disease), haem iron (linked to certain cancers), and advanced glycation end products (AGEs), which are associated with inflammation.

Beef production is linked to high greenhouse gas emissions, greater land and water use, and other environmental challenges.
Plant-based alternatives like the Beyond Burger are designed to reduce these impacts while providing a familiar, delicious option.

While plant-based burgers are sometimes called “ultra-processed,” this side-by-side comparison reminds us to look deeper:
What are we actually eating, and what’s the impact on our health and the earth?

Special thanks to Matthew Glover for sharing this insightful comparison. You can follow him and learn more about sustainable food choices at Veganuary.
